Dave Watt earned distinction in two intercollegiate sports: Basketball (1972-73); Track and Field (1970-75), being a key member of six championship teams (three outdoor, three indoor), the OUAA triple jump champion three times and record-holder. He also won more than 11 national triple jump titles (indoor and outdoor) and was national record-holder in 1977.

He represented Canada at the 1974 World Student Games, 1975 Pan-Am Games,, 1977 Pacific Conference Games and 1978 Commonwealth Games, and also served the UofT track program as an assistant coach and administrator. He served on the Men's Athletic Directorate and was chair of the athletic department's Excellence Committee in 1977-78. His numerous contributions to Varsity athletics were recognized with the Biggs Trophy in 1974 and the Loudon Award in 1978; he is the only student-athlete to have received both awards. He is Vice-President and Chief Economist for Unitel Communications Inc. in Toronto.
