Cam Gray’s great abilities on the gridiron were recognized immediately upon his arrival on campus as an outstanding member of the 1933 Championship Junior Blues Football team. He more than lived up to the early promise through his next five years on the Senior Blues while studying medicine at the university. Regarded as one of the best punters and place kickers of his era, he was central to Varsity's capture of the Yates Cup in 1936. He was awarded the Johnny Copp Trophy as team MVP in 1937, was elected team captain in 1938 and finished his career with a total of five First Colours.
In addition to football, Cam played three years of intramural hockey and baseball and served as a student representative on the Athletic Directorate. He remained active with the Blues and in 1957 was elected by the Advisory Board as their representative to the Athletic Directorate, where he served until 1964. He became active with the T-Holders' Association and served as Acting Chairman for their inaugural dinner in 1966.
Cam's career also kept him in touch with the university as an associate professor in the Faculty of Medicine. He also served as the executive director of the Ontario Thoracic Society.
