Bill Crothers is arguably the greatest middle distance runner Canada has yet produced. In four years of Intercollegiate competition he won 1O gold medals, set league records for 44O yards and 88O yards and was twice named the outstanding athlete at the championship meet(Hec Phillips Trophy). He represented Canada at the 1962 and 1966 Commonwealth Games, the 1964 and 1968 Olympics, the 1965 World University Games(gold medal in 8OOm) and 1967 Pam-American Games. In 1963 he won the Biggs Trophy(UofT) and the Lou Marsh Trophy(Athlete of the Year), and in 1964 was voted the CP Male Athlete of the Year. His silver medal time of 1:45.68 in the 8OOm at the 1964
Olympics stood as the Canadian record in this event for 24 years.

He is a member of the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame and operates a Pharmacy in Markham, Ontario.
