Alexandra Borowik brought years of international experience to the gym during her four-year career at U of T. A member of the Canadian national gymnastics team from 1984-88, Alexandra went on to become the Blues top female gymnast, medalling at every OWIAA championship and three national University Cup competitions.
She won the all-around silver medal at the 1985 Canadian junior championships before finishing eighth overall at the pre-world championships in Montreal. Alexandra also represented Canada at the 1987 world championships in Rotterdam before coming to the University of Toronto.
In her first year of intercollegiate competition, Alexandra won the gold medal in the uneven bars event and was named an all-star while leading U of T to a second-place finish at the 1989-90 OWIAA championship. She placed third overall at the 1990-91 provincial event, thanks to gold-medal performances in the floor and vault, and went on to finish second all-around with two bronze medal finishes at the National University Gymnastics Cup.
Alexandra earned her third consecutive all-star nod in 1991-92 after placing fourth overall in the province and garnered a silver medal on the floor at the National Cup that same year. She capped off her intercollegiate career in 1992-93 with a provincial silver medal for her floor routine as well as bronze medals on the beam and vault.
Alexandra was the president of the Undergraduate Geology Society and a SAC director. In 1993, she was inducted into the Canadian Gymnastics Hall of Fame and was the recipient of U of T’s Dr. Clara Benson Honour Award, given to a graduating student for outstanding ability in athletics and scholarship.
