Alan Pyle enjoyed great success in the pool as a member of the Varsity Blues water polo and swim teams. Over four years, Alan was a member of an astounding eight provincial and three national championship teams.

Alan was a member of four consecutive Varsity Blues water polo OQAA championship teams from 1964-68, while also competing with the Canadian national team. During his tenure with Team Canada, he competed at the 1967 and 1971 Pan American Games before heading to Munich for the 1972 Olympics.

At the same time, Alan was a member of four OQAA provincial and three CIAU national championship swimming teams at the University of Toronto, where he helped lead the Blues to back-to-back gold medals in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 1967 and 1968.

After graduating in 1968, Alan attended the Stanford Graduate School of Business, earning his MBA in 1970, and continued to train and play with various local teams in California tournaments.

He then returned to U of T to coach the men’s water polo team in 1970 and 1971 before becoming director of the Canadian Water Polo Association from 1972-79. Alan returned to the Olympic stage in Montreal (1976) as a member of the water polo officiating crew.
