The 1978-79 team earned U of T’s first CIAU women’s swimming and diving title. The Ontario champions were led by CIAU coach of the year Merrily Stratten.

At the CIAU championships, Stephanie Jaremeko won the gold medal in the one-metre event, and silver in the three-metre event, while Barb Cappa placed second in the one-metre category. Anne- Marie Latta claimed silver in both the 100 and 200 butterfly, with Latta, Nancy Lee, June Dies and Becky Green finishing second in the 4x100 medley relay. Latta and Dies then teamed up with Karen LeGresley and Dorothy Foote to claim the silver medal in the 4x200 freestyle relay.

At the conference championships, Jaremeko claimed gold in the one and three metre events, with Cappa earning silver medals in both. The swimming team won 12 medals, with Latta leading the way with wins in both the 100 and 200 butterfly races. Lee finished second in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events, while Dies placed second in the 200 IM. LeGresley won silver in the 800 freestyle and bronze in the 400 freestyle. Foote claimed medals in the 800 free, 200 butterfly and 400 IM. The squad won gold in both the 4x200 freestyle and 4x100 medley relays.
