University of Toronto hockey forwards Hunter Atchison and Mathilde De Serres have been named the Varsity Blues male and female athletes of the week for the period ending January 7.
Â
A first-year forward from Victoria, B.C., Hunter Atchison scored two goals in leading the Varsity Blues men's hockey team to a 5-3 victory over the OUA defending champion York Lions on Sunday afternoon.
Â
The social science major scored the third goal of the game with 2:02 remaining in the second period as he received a nice pass from Curtis Harvey and made no mistake in finding the back of the net.
Â
Atchison added some insurance, scoring an empty-net goal with one second remaining to round out the victory. The rookie now leads Toronto with seven goals this season.
Â
Second-year forward Mathilde De Serres scored both goals in leading the Varsity Blues women's hockey team to a 2-1 victory over the Windsor Lancers on Friday night at Varsity Arena.
Â
The mechanical engineering major from Ville Mont-Royal, Que., got the Blues on the board 6:48 into the second period as she forced a turnover on the penalty kill and beat Lancers goaltender Molly Jenkins.
Â
De Serres struck again just over 10 minutes later when she received a pass in the neutral zone, split the Lancers defencemen and fired over Jenkin's glove.
