University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball assistant coach Vincenzo Mallia has been named an assistant coach of the Canadian women's national team for the 2017 season.

Mallia became a full-time assistant coach with the Varsity Blues women's volleyball program at the beginning of the 2014-15 season. Since then, he has helped the Blues to two straight OUA banners, as well as the program's first-ever national title following a perfect 25-0 season in 2015-16.

He most recently worked as an assistant coach with Volleyrò Casal de pazzi in Rome from 2012-14, winning four regional and two national championships.

He was the assistant coach and training partner in Modica b1 series from 2007-10, and also served as an assistant coach with the Slovenia national beach volleyball team from 2009-10.Â

Mallia worked as the Data Volleyball expert with Team Canada at the 2015 junior men's world championship in El Salvador alongside Blues men's head coach John Barrett. Â
Among other competitions, the women's senior team, will compete in 2017
FIVB Women's Grand Prix, which includes a stop at the team's base in
Richmond, July 21 to 23.
