Â
The CFL will host regional combines for the fifth consecutive year and Varsity Blues players Lukas Gavac, Richard Gillespie, Rahul Madan and Danny Sprukulis have been invited to the Toronto combine.
Â
A fourth-year running back, Gavac sat out the 2016 season due to injury; however, the Mississauga native is back in the top form which saw him rank fifth in the OUA with 677 rushing yards on 87 carries, while scoring seven touchdowns in 2015.
Â
Gillespie, a defensive back from Whitby, Ont., recorded 29.5 tackles and three breakups, while leading the OUA with five interceptions in 2016.
Â
A fifth-year receiver, Madan led the Blues and ranked third in the province with 736 yards on 45 catches this past season.
Â
Sprukulis, a 6-foot-5, 315-pound offensive lineman from Oakville, Ont., started in all eight games for the past four seasons. He was invited to the 2016 East West Bowl and was named a member of the OUA all-rookie team and U of T's male rookie of the year in 2013.
Â
Last year, 17 players from regional combines were extended an invitation to the National CFL Combine.
Â
The CFL, with input from all teams, will then invite additional players from the regional combines to the national Combine in Regina depending on player performance. Each regional combine will invite approximately 40 to 45 football players.
