BLUES POST TOP RESULTS ON DAY 1 OF CIS CHAMPIONSHIPS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's and women's track and field teams had a stellar Day 1 at the CIS championships (March 10) at York University.

Second-year standout Carolyn Adams highlighted the night with a fourth-place finish in the women's pentathlon. The kinesiology major finished with 3,756 points. She placed tied for second in the high jump (1.64m), placed third in the 60m hurdles (8.84) and 800m (2:20.00), fourth in the shot put (10.72m) and seventh in the long jump (5.25m).

Fourth-year veteran sprinter Maddie Warren also placed just off the podium in the women's 60m, crossing the finish line in 7.61 seconds.

CIS male track athlete of the year Sacha Smart was the top qualifier following 600m heats in a time of 1:19.00, while veteran Rachel Jewett qualified in the women's race in 1:30.43.

Fifth-year veteran James Turner leads the men's heptathlon after Day 1. Details to follow.

Toronto's women's 4x200 relay team of Katrina Innanen, Maddie Warren, Phoebe Simons and Lindsay Brandys also qualified for Saturday's timed finals.
