University of Toronto Varsity Blues swimming star Kylie Masse placed eighth overall in the 50-metre backstroke at the 2016 FINA world short course championship on Saturday night.

Masse, who also earned the world silver medal in the 100-metre backstroke on Wednesday night, touched the wall in 26.46 seconds.

She was ranked fifth heading into Saturday night's 50 backstroke finals after bettering her own Canadian record in 26.34 seconds in Friday's semifinals. The LaSalle, Ont., native finished fourth after Friday morning heats, touching the wall in 26.57 seconds.

In addition to her silver-medal performance, the third-year kinesiology major also helped Canada to a fourth-place finish in the 4x50 medley relay on Wednesday. She has set three new Canadian records this week (50 back, 100 back, 4x50 medley relay) and is expected to swim the first leg in Canada's 4x100 medley relay tomorrow.
