Varsity Blues men’s basketball assistant coach Fatih Akser will take over the role as head coach for the under-17 boys program as Ontario Basketball announced their 2013 provincial coaching staff Friday.
Akser will be entering his fourth year with the team, having helped the team to gold medals in 2011 and 2012. He is NCCP Train to Compete certified and has been involved with Ontario Basketball’s Centre for Performance and Canada Basketball’s Targeted Athlete Strategy (TAS) youth development program.
Since 2010, he has worked with the coaching staff of the Canadian Senior Men’s National Team as a video coordinator.
Fellow Blues assistant coach, Michael De Giorgio, was also named an assistant coach with the under-14 boys program.
Amanda Lauzon, a fifth-year forward on U of T’s women’s basketball squad, will serve as an assistant coach with the under-14 girls team. Lauzon is an assistant coach with CP in Toronto, an assistant coach with the Niagara Region Regional Training Centre (RTC) and has also coached with the U15 team last year.
