INCOMING SWIMMERS LEAD CANADA TO VICTORY

Varsity Blues transfer students Paige Schultz and Stephanie Horner combined for four medals to lead Canada to victory at the 2010 Nations Cup, August 5-6, at the Saanich Commonwealth Pool in Victoria B.C.

Schultz and Horner, who will be joining the Blues swimming team from Arizona State and Auburn University, respectively, helped Canada come from behind on Day 2 of the competition to finish in first place with 339 points. Australia was second at 329, while Brazil placed third (253) and France was fourth (199).

Schultz (Toronto) had a great showing out West, first earning a silver medal as a member of the 400 freestyle relay team before topping the 200-metre individual medley (IM) with a time of 2:16.81. A 2008 Olympian, Horner was second (2:17.47).

Schultz continued to shine on Day 2, with a silver-medal performance in the 400 IM (4:54.62), while Horner of Beaconsfield, Que., finished just off the podium in the 400-metre freestyle in a time of 4:21.15.
