Varsity Blues swimmer Zsofi Balazs finished just off the podium in the women’s 10km open water event at the 2010 Pan Pacfic championships in Irvine, California.
Balazs of Toronto finished the race in 2:02:23.35, two minutes behind bronze medalist Megan Gorman of Australia. Christine Jennings and Eva Fabian of the United States finished first and second, respectively.
Balazs qualified for the Pan Pacfic championships with her victory at the 2010 senior national championships. She has had a very successful open water season this summer, finishing 29th at the Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA) world open water swimming championships in July in Roberval, Que.
The Blues swimming team opens their 2010-11 season on October 3 when they travel to Waterloo, Ont., for a tri-meet with the Waterloo Warriors and Guelph Gryphons.
