ANOTHER NATIONAL TEAM SWIMMER TRANSFERS TO U OF T

National team member Paige Schultz has made known her intent to swim for the Varsity Blues and pursue an education at the University of Toronto in the fall of 2010.

Schultz is a transfer student from Arizona State and will enroll in liberal arts at the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus (UTSC) this fall. The Toronto native will train at the new High Performance Centre located at U of T, while also competing for the Varsity Blues in CIS intercollegiate competition

"I have watched Paige develop from a young age group swimmer to a world-class athlete," said Varsity Blues head coach Byron MacDonald. "One thing you can’t teach is racing – some are born with that drive to win. Paige has that. She will be an incredibly valuable addition to the U of T varsity team."

Schultz was a three-time athlete of the year at Harbord Collegiate and has been named to nine national teams including the 2007 Australian Youth Olympic Festival, the 2009 World University Games, and the 2009 Junior Pan Pacific championships where she won a bronze medal in the 200m individual medley (IM).

The addition of Schultz is right on the heels of the recent transfer of Olympian Stephanie Horner. The two women will be a strong foundation for the Blues for years to come.

Students who sign a letter of intent and commit to Varsity Blues intercollegiate teams will be eligible to play at the University of Toronto provided they are academically admissible and have applied through the normal process with the Ontario Universities Application Centre.
