CIS CHAMPIONSHIP HOSTS ANNOUNCED; BLUES SCORE HAT TRICK

OTTAWA (CIS) – The University of Toronto Varsity Blues have been named the host institution of the 2012-13 women’s hockey, 2013 women’s soccer and 2014-15 women’s volleyball national championships as announced by Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) on Monday, July 5.

U of T is one of 18 schools that bid to host 22 national championships from 2011-15. All sites have been selected pending the next step in the process which involves the signing of a championship agreement by both parties.

A number of events that received single bids in the spring were reviewed and supported. This included U of T’s women’s hockey and women’s soccer bids. The Blues came out victorious in the 2014-15 women’s volleyball bid over Canada West powerhouses Brandon University, University of Regina, Trinity Western University and the University of Winnipeg.

The Blues have hosted 18 national championships since 1988, including the 1995-96 women’s volleyball championship, the second-ever women’s hockey championship in 1998-99 and most recently the 2009 women’s soccer championship at the state-of-the-art Varsity Centre. U of T is also set to host their second (1986) men’s soccer national event in November 2010.
