Kelly Setter, Brenley Jorgensen and Lindsay Hill of the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s hockey program will take on the under-18 Canadian national team as members of the OUA all-stars on Tuesday, March 23 at 7:30 p.m.
The game, to be played at the MasterCard Centre for Hockey Excellence in Toronto, is part of the pre-competition camp for the U18 national team as they prepare for the upcoming world championships in Chicago (March 27-April 4).
The OUA team is comprised of first and second team all-stars as well as six additional forwards and two defencemen. Varsity Blues and former national team head coach Karen Hughes has been assigned the OUA’s bench boss with assistance from coach of the year Matt Holmberg of Queen’s University.
“This is a great opportunity for Kelly, Brenley and Lindsay to play against some of the best and brightest young players in Canada,” said Hughes. “The calibre of play just keeps growing and this is a great way to showcase both upcoming and current talent in Canadian women’s hockey.”
Setter, a third-year defenceman from Keswick, Ont., led Toronto’s defensive corps this season as the Blues finished in fifth place with a 14-11-2 record. The arts and science student was also named to the OUA all-rookie team in 2007-08. Both third-year forwards, Jorgensen (Kingston, Ont.) and Hill of Ajax, Ont. led the Blues with 30 points this season.
