RINGUETTE EARNS SILVER MEDAL AT WESTERN OPEN

University of Toronto Varsity Blues wrestler Dene Ringuette earned a silver medal at the Western Open on Saturday, February 6 at Thames Hall.

The fourth-year bioengineering student placed second in the men’s 76kg event, defeating Lakehead’s Jamie Funk, Alberta’s James Yurik and Keenan Miller of London-Western before falling to Montreal YMHA’s Cleo Ncube in the gold-medal final match.

"Dene's wrestling has been steadily improving," said head coach Mike Quinsey. "His defence has always been outstanding and now he is developing a high-caliber offence which is rounding out his game. He will be very tough to beat at the OUA championships coming up in two weeks."

Other results included Toronto natives Shujon Mazumder and Matt Fruchtman’s sixth-place finishes in the men’s 54kg and 90kg categories, respectively.
