The University of Toronto Varsity Blues badminton team earned their eighth bronze medal in the past 12 years and boasted two major award winners during the 2009 OUA season.

The Blues finished the season with a 3-2 record before falling 8-5 to the eventual champion Waterloo Warriors in OUA semi-final action. U of T then dominated the host York Lions, 10-3, to garner the bronze medal.

Team captain Shilin Cheung was recognized as the OUA female player of the year as she completed her first undefeated season. Similarly, first-year standout Michelle Li earned OUA rookie of the year status for her dominant 4-0 record during regular season play. Both Cheung and Li were also named OUA all-stars.

Melissa Hill earned her 10th OUA all-star recognition while Jesse Assing picked up his second consecutive all-star nod on the men’s side.
