BLUES FIGURE SKATING FOURTH AT OUA CHAMPIONSHIP

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues figure skating team finished fourth overall at the 2010 OUA championship, February 17-18, at RIM Park in Waterloo, Ont.

The Guelph Gryphons defended their title to earn their second consecutive OUA championship banner with a total of 78 points. The Western Mustangs earned silver with 70 points, while the Waterloo Warriors were third with 61 points. Toronto finished just off the podium with a combined team score of 57 points.

Amanda Tully of Newmarket, Ont. led the way for Toronto with a gold medal in the gold free skate on day one of competition. Tori Prouse (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.), Tiffany Tse (Calgary), Sophie Adam (Sudbury, Ont.) and Lydia Schultz (Bradford, Ont.) followed that up with a first-place finish in the pairs fours on Thursday morning.

The Blues also earned three silver medals during the two-day event. Adam and Ashleigh Scholig’s (Mindon, Ont.) were second in the junior silver similar dance, while Julie Hommik (Toronto) and Gillian Saunders (Reston, Va.) earned silver in the intermediate similar pairs event. Tully and Veronica Hall (Dryden, Ont.) rounded out Toronto’s podium finishes with a second-place finish in the senior similar pairs.
