THREE BLUES RECOGNIZED AS OUA SQUASH ALL-STARS

Cami Marmoush, Megan Northey and Adrian Pond earned all-star recognition as Ontario University Athletics (OUA) announced the 2010 squash major award winners and all-stars, presented by The Jesters Club on Wednesday, February 10.

Hassan Muhammad (Scarborough, Ont.) of the McMaster Marauders and Strachan Jarvis (Toronto) of the Western Mustangs are OUA men’s co-players of the year. Muhammad led the Marauders to their second straight OUA championship berth, finishing fourth in the standings.

Brian Hong (Toronto) of the Mustangs is the 2010 men’s rookie of the year, following in the footsteps of teammate Ryan Herden (Vancouver), who took the award last year. Western is the No. 1 seed entering the OUA championship, a title it has won 26 consecutive seasons.

Eric Dingle of the McGill Redmen was named 2010 men’s coach of the year.

Muhammad, Jarvis and Hong have all been named OUA first-team all-stars. Also named to the first-team list are Paul Gartenburg (Toronto) of the Queen's Gaels, Ben Marien (Westmount, Que.) of the McGill Redmen and Ahmed Shohayeb (Hamilton, Ont.) of the McMaster Marauders.

Erin Roberts (Calgary) of the Gaels was named top female rookie. Queen’s is the top-ranked women’s team heading into the OUA championship.

Both Rachael Forgeron of Western and Doug Hamilton of McMaster are the women’s co-coaches of the year. Hamilton has won this award four straight seasons, with Forgeron receiving the honour for the first time.
