Laura Maessen of the University of Toronto Varsity Blues track and field team earned a bronze medal in the women’s high jump competition at the 2009 Canada Summer Games, August 27, in Prince Edward Island.

Maessen (Dartmouth, N.S.), along with British Columbia’s gold and silver medalists Holly Parent and Natasha Miller, jumped 1.71m. However, Parent only tallied three misses throughout the final, while Miller had four and Maessen recorded five, which ultimately determined podium placement.

A second-year humanities student, Maessen earned a bronze medal at the OUA championships and posted a fourth-place finish at the CIS championships in 2008-09.
