Kate Ruediger, a member of the 2008-09 University of Toronto Varsity Blues track and field team, captured the gold medal in the women’s 400m at the 2009 Canada Summer Games, August 25, in Prince Edward Island.
Ruediger (Oakville, Ont.) finished the race in a time of 54.59 seconds, 0.44 seconds ahead of Manitoba’s Carly Paracholski to claim the top spot. Katie Edith Isabella Reid of British Columbia earned the bronze medal with a time of 55.14 seconds.
The recent OISE graduate led the entire field, as she recorded the fastest time in the preliminaries (55.46) and was ranked first going into the A final.
Ruediger qualified for the Canada Summer Games with her gold-medal performance in the women’s 400m at the 2009 Ontario senior championships and Canada Summer Games trials.
She also claimed a bronze medal in the 400m and finished sixth in the B final of the 200m at the 2009 Canadian track and field championships and world trials at Varsity Centre.
