Jessica Fitzgerald placed fifth in the women's 67kg category this weekend (Feb. 27-28) at the CIS wrestling championships at the University of Calgary.

Fitzgerald, the 2009 OUA female wrestler of the meet, fell to Laura Steffler (Whitby, Ont.) of the Brock Badgers in round one and eventual silver-medalist Stacie Anaka (Victoria, B.C.) in round two.

The Bancroft, Ont. native went on to defeat UNB's Ruth Porier and Guelph's Ashley Routcliffe (Lasalle, Ont.) to earn a fifth-place finish in her weight class.

In men's action, Shujon Mazumder finished seventh in the 54kg class.

Mazumder had a tough draw, falling to eventual gold-medalist Huy Nguyen (Calgary, Alta.) of Lakehead in both the second and third rounds.

Mazumder came away with a victory over UNB's Devin Simpson to claim the seventh-place finish.
