DAY 1: CANADIAN COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY CHAMPIONSHIPS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues Nordic ski team completed day one of the Canadian College and University Nordic championships on Sunday, March 8th.

The championships are being held at Highlands Nordic in Duntoon, Ont., with events scheduled over the course of the week (March 8-13).

In the first day of action the Blues competed in the skate team sprint race, where two skiers race a 6x1300m course.

In men’s action, Aaron Barter (Almonte, Ont.) and Hans Fischer (Aurora, Ont.) just missed the finals and earned a 14th place finish with a time of 19:05.8. The Lakehead Thunderwolves, Laval Rouge et Or and Calgary Dinos were the first three teams to cross the finish line in the final round.

The women’s duo of Erin Mallinger (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) and Mary Qiu (Bolton, Ont.) placed 11th for the Blues in a time of 23:36.9. Two teams from Lakehead finished first and third, while Laurentian picked up the silver medal in the finals.
