BLUES ROWERS SHINE AT NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues rowing team closed their season with impressive results at the 2009 national championships, November 3-4, in London, Ont.

Michael Braithwaite (Duncan, B.C.), recently named the oarsman of the year at the Canadian university rowing championships (CURC), won a bronze medal in the men’s single and, in doing so, was declared the champion of the U23 men’s single category.

Caro Kronlachner (Toronto) and assistant coach Meghann Jackson placed second in the B final of the women’s pair event, while Alanna Komisar (Calgary, Alta.) raced for Alberta in the women’s lightweight single and finished second in the C final.

Veterans Elise Mackie (Calgary, Alta.) and Mike Harowicz (Oakville, Ont.) placed third in the C final of the women’s pair and men’s single, respectively.
