CHUNG LEADS BLUES TO 10-7 VICTORY

Alan Chung scored four goals as the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s water polo team came away with a 10-7 victory over the York Lions on Wednesday, November 4 at Varsity Pool.

The Blues struck first as Auckland, New Zealand native Luke Spooner opened the scoring less than three minutes into the game, however, York would even the score just two minutes later off the hand of Josip Cvitanovic (Mississauga, Ont.).

Both teams continued to battle and a goal by Jordan Duffield (Puslinch, Ont.) in the last four seconds would give the Lions a 2-1 lead going into the second quarter.

U of T would gain the upper hand, outscoring York 3-1 in the second frame. Tuna Tali (Istanbul, Turkey), Alan Chung (Ajax, Ont.) and Tanner Regan (Surrey, B.C.) all scored as the Blues held a 4-3 lead at halftime.

U of T continued their solid defensive play throughout the third quarter, limiting the Lions to one goal. Chung tallied two more, while Tali added another and Calum Kendrick (Ottawa, Ont.) notched one to put Toronto up 8-4 heading into the final frame.

Spooner and Chung would add their second and fourth goals of the game, respectively, as the Blues held on for the three-goal victory.

With the win, the Blues remain undefeated in 2009 with a 6-0 record.

The Varsity Blues return to the pool on Monday, November 9 when they host the McMaster Marauders at Varsity Pool. Game time is scheduled for 9:15 p.m.
