University of Toronto Varsity Blues tennis team members Stefan Srnic and Daria Zakharchenko earned all-star recognition as announced by Ontario University Athletics (OUA) on Thursday, October 15.

A first-year standout, Srnic (Belgrade, Serbia) earns the honour for the first time in his rookie year, after stepping in and playing in the Blues number one singles and doubles matches for the majority of the season.

Zakharchenko (Sochi, Russia) picks up her second OUA all-star recognition in as many years. Similar to Srnic, the arts and science major competed in the number one singles spot for the Blues and helped to bolster U of T’s doubles presence in the number two match.

The Western women’s tennis team finished the regular season on a high note as the only team with three players named all-stars.

Chantal Forristal (Toronto, Ont.) has once again proved to be an asset to the team, receiving her third straight all-star award, along with teammate Emma Lecavalier (Mesa, Arizona), who was awarded the honour for the second time. Western’s Paige Robinson (London, Ont.) joins her teammates Forristal and Lecavalier on the list for the first time.

First-time all-stars include York’s Stephanie Willerding (Toronto, Ont.) and Waterloo’s Paige Long (Claremont, Ont.).

On the men’s’ side, joining the Blues all-star are McMaster’s Keenan O’Young (Toronto, Ont.) and Waterloo Warrior Marlon Coelho (Mississauga, Ont.) who make their second appearance on the all-star team.

For the third time in his York Lions tennis career, Mikhail Lew (Caracas, Venezuela) was named to the men’s all-star team. Teammate Tomohiro Ono (Toronto, Ont.) earned his first all-star nod and in his fifth year playing for the Waterloo Warriors, Marko Agatonovic (Waterloo, Ont.) has received the all-star honour for the fourth time.

York’s head coach Mike Mitchell was honoured as the men’s coach of the year, while Mike Richards was the recipient of the women’s coach of the year honour.
