Tory Merrill and Yoko Murphy scored five goals apiece as the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s lacrosse team defeated the McGill Martletts 17-2 on Saturday, October 10 in Hamilton, Ont.
With the win, the Blues remain undefeated in OUA regular season play with a perfect 6-0 record.
Both Merrill (Orangeville, Ont.) and Murphy (Toronto) scored four goals in the first half, with Taryn Greider (Cobourg, Ont.) adding two and Jen Held (Brampton, Ont.) tallying one.
Jacqueline Millette (Longmeadow, Ma.) and Caroline Lucas-Conwell (Paris, France) scored what would be the Martlett’s only two goals in the first half. Toronto held a commanding 11-2 lead at halftime.
The Blues continued their dominant play in the second half as fourth-year midfielder Kristin Smart (Whitby, Ont.) garnered two goals, while Danielle Chu (Toronto), Merrill, Murphy, and Held each added one to round out the 17-2 victory.
The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow as they take on the defending OUA champion Laurier Golden Hawks in Guelph, Ont.
